I was interested in modeling something more organic and lifelike, since most of my projects are hard surfaces. So I set out to create a family of aliens, each similar but with unique attributes.

Alien Series
Alien 1: Zebur
Alien 2: Vlex
Alien 3: Zylic
This series was inspired by several different aliens I have seen but most importantly Greedo from star wars. The aliens were sculpted from scratch, starting with a subdivided cube. I used the sculpting brushes and worked down from big to small brush sizes. The later aliens have their skin texture mapped using displacement instead of being stamped on.
Sculpting the smaller features like the mouth and ears was the hardest part and required high levels of subdivision. The eyeballs were intentionally left with a glossy black texture as I felt it gave them a bit of a lifeless mystique. The final videos are rendered with an isometric camera and three point area lighting. They are each 4 seconds @ 60 fps.
